Race Day?
Our race will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 10 am. We start on the SW corner of WVHS. Park in upper lots. Check out our Race Guide for information, maps, and tips.
Planned race?
We will be featuring a 5K color run/walk. Those looking for a little adventure can run through our 5 color stations. Those looking to set a blistering time on a pure, clean run can avoid our color stations.
Is this an chip-timed race?
No, not this year. A color 5K puts the focus on FUN. It is all about getting crazy and having fun while practicing healthy living in a less stressful environment. However, our 5K is a certified course and so all of you serious runners, just get out your good watch and away you go.
What do I wear?
WHITE WHITE WHITE WHITE! The Warriors on the Run shirt this year is of course white and you are highly encouraged to wear it! If you choose to hit the color stations - you will end the race -- COLORIFIC!!! Shorts/pants don't need to be white.
How is the color administered along the course?
At 5 color stations along the course you will be greeted by some special volunteers who will be reaching in their big buckets and tossing color powder at you. These color stations are marked on the map and are easy to avoid if you so choose.
Is the Color 5K safe?
The safety of our runners and volunteers is at the forefront of our minds and actions. The color powder is CORNSTARCH & FD&C dyes.
Do the color stations affect runner vision? Or breathing?
As with any substance, you want to keep it out of your eyes and our “certified” color throwers try to aim low as you pass by. Some “Color Runners” opt to wear glasses or goggles for their eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for their mouths. The color can be avoided by running around the throwers or staying in the "middle lane" . We will be selling white bandanas and sunglasses to runners at packet pick-up and the morning of the race.
What is the Color Throw Party? What are the color packet's for?
After the race, the DJ will lead participants in a color throw in a designated area. At their command, everyone will open up their color packet and throw it into the air for an enormous color explosion. We provide one bag of color in your race packet and more packets can be purchased during registration or on race day. This is a great opportunity for colorific pictures. We will have a photographer there, if you choose to get your own phone/camera in the mix, make sure it is covered in plastic. Do NOT throw color into anyone's face.
Can spectators attend the post-race Color Throwl?
Absolutely. We will have some powder packets available first come/first serve for everyone to purchase.
Will the color ruin clothes or running shoes?
The color does mostly wash out after the event. As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn’t mind getting colorful. If you would like to preserve the color in your running shirt, spray it with vinegar and iron it. If you wash your shirt….the color will eventually come out. For FULL color cleaning ideas and tips, check out our RACE GUIDE at this LINK!
Do you have “cleaning stations” at the finish after party?
We will have some leaf blowers to give you a good head-start. With a good dusting off, you aren’t 100% clean, but you are good for the drive home. It would actually be pretty fun to see some of you around town still looking colorful. A good reminder of homecoming week!
How does the color affect the inside of cars?
Most people bring some towels for the insides of their cars, or a change of clothes just in case. It's like riding home from the pool in your wet swim suit!
Are cameras and phones safe to have in the color zones?
We will have a couple of race photographers shooting from a medium distance (25-50 feet). If you want to get shots right in the midst of the color we recommend covering cameras/phones with plastic wrap.
Will prizes be awarded?
All runners are automatically entered into a raffle to win one of a number of prizes, including homecoming tickets or new shoes or apparel from Road Runner Sports. We also have some awesome gift cards to raffle!
When is packet pick-up?
Packet pick-up will be on Saturday, September 26th at Road Runner Sports, 25555 w 75th Street, Naperville,
Packets may be picked up the morning of the race between 11-2pm. We will be selling white bandanas and sunglasses for those interested.
Can I register the day of the race?
Yes, plan to arrive at Waubonsie Valley High School between 9:00-9:30a to register the morning of the race. There will be a $5.00 fee increase on the day of the race. Your white t-shirts and free color packet can only be guaranteed to those preregistered by 9/16/16.
What is the course?
The 5K race will be run on a USATF-Certified course around tranquil Waubonsie Lake on Fox Valley Park District property behind Waubonsie Valley High School.
Can I bring my dog/cat/turtle or my skateboard?
Unfortunately, no pets, strollers, wagons, bicycles, skateboards or other wheels are allowed on the course.
